Happy Pancake Day!

Shrove Tuesday (known as Pancake Day) is the traditional day of feasting and fun before the forty days of Lent that lead up to Easter. The idea was to use up any luxury foods that will not be eaten during Lent. To do this they made pancakes using all the eggs, butter, and milk and then enjoying them with a variety of tasty fillings. The next day, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and the period of fasting begins.

Shrove Tuesday has more than its fair share of unique and unusual songs, rhymes, and poems. It’s a great opportunity to read stories and poems, sing songs and play music before cooking up a stack of yummy pancakes, flipping them, racing with them and then of course eating them!
